Earned 10K side gig, feeling used

I recently landed a contract side‑gig that pays about 15 dollars an hour for a startup. They let me bill up to 8 hrs a day, no matter how much I actually get done.

I've done plenty of full‑time stints at startups, but never as a contractor.

The catch with this kind of work is you have to fill timesheets and justify every 30‑minute slot.

I put in a solid 7 hrs today, which comes to roughly 105 dollars or 10K rupees.

I was doing this alongside my main job that's just 2‑4 hrs a day but pays like crazy.

In a full‑time role you basically get paid to exist - whether you're shipping code, stuck on a bug, or just waiting for a button to be built, the pay stays the same.

But with hourly contracts you can't play the game; they end up playing you.

For the first time in my 5‑year career I sat the whole day doing real work and felt like I was being short‑changed for peanuts.

I just emailed the company saying this isn't my cup of tea and I'm resigning.

Earning 10K a day works out to over 2 lakhs a month. How is that peanuts? Am I just out of touch with current salaries?

Simran

Looks like pure rage bait.

Someone does a full day's work, gets decent pay and still gets angry about it.

Are you thinking like a sarkari naukar?

Govind

What exactly does the job involve?

Preeti

Bro, I'm interested in that gig - can you help me get it?

Pillai

For the first time in my 5‑year career, I sat all day doing real work and felt like I was being short‑changed for peanuts.

What a sad mindset - treating 7 hours of genuine work as a violation.

Jasmin

Kis ko bait karke scam karne ki koshish kar rahe ho, Lala?

Kanchan

Seems completely bogus, looks like a post just to farm karma and stir up rage.

Bhavin

What's the point of this post anyway? You should have posted on r/nowork or another relevant subreddit.

If you don't like it, maybe don't take freelance gigs - they're a legal gray area, son. You're risking a lot for what you call peanuts. If your full‑time employer finds out, you'll lose your chai breaks and casual chats.

Prakash

Spoiled brat, lol... Can you actually tell me how to land a job like this?

Tanya

Just pass this chance to someone who'd actually appreciate it. Not sure what your issue is.

You signed up for it yourself. Boasting about getting paid for doing nothing - something our sarkari babus love - is why the country stays inefficient.
