But what about the huge amount of salt you'd be taking in?

Sneha

It also smells terrible - not easy to swallow 100 gms of dried fish or shrimp.

Bhavesh

Give it a shot - try down 100 gms of dried shrimp in one go.

Who knew grass is green? Drying removes water, so you end up with a protein-dense concentrate.

Sonia

Dried fish can be a bit carcinogenic if you eat it regularly, so that's a concern.

High sodium is bad for the body - it makes you bloat, raises hypertension risk and can be carcinogenic. For me, it even triggers migraines. So it's not a sustainable habit, only occasional. Otherwise we'd be munching on dried grasshoppers, which are also a solid protein source.

Pallavi

The daily salt limit is 5 g. Dried fish may be cheap protein, but it's a salt bomb and linked to higher cancer risk, heavy metals and pesticide residues from poor drying. Fresh fish, eggs or dal give you protein without those extra risks.
