Insane. I didn't think Anju Bobby George's record would've ever get broken in my lifetime. Anju Bobby George was elite. Olympics level athlete. Not an athlete Indians thought could be produced from here. She was miles and miles ahead of others in India. When she jumped 6.5m+, the second best would be somewhere around 6.2 on their days. Before Neeraj Chopra, we had Anju Bobby George. First ever athlete in independent India to win a World Championship Medal in Track and Field (Women's Long Jump, Bronze Medal, 2003). Her jumps made us believe we are not just there to participate, but win. She jumped her personal best, the national record that stood tall for 22 years, in Athens Olympics(2004). Mayookha Johnny was I think the only one who came somewhat close to Anju's record till first decade of the record standing tall, by jumping 6.63m, still massive 20cms behind her national record. Shaili and Ancy have been great. Shaili jumped 6.76 in 2023, very close to the NR, but Ancy has just made a jump which I didn't knew she had inside her. Great day for Indian athletics.

Not just the record, she had 5 jumps above 6.67m today which just shows her consistency. This was long time coming as she has been consistently jumping around 6.6-6.75m. Finally the longest standing National record in Field events is broken.

This performance would have her finish P4 at last Olympics as well as World championships. It's great performance.

I am eagerly waiting for cwg to see how we actually stack up

Anju used to perform when all her peers were doped to the highest degree. One of the greatest athletes our country has produced.

Something is brewing in Indian athletics, hope it's all fair and square

Recently been hearing national records being broken. If my memory serves me right, I've heard 3 in past few days. It makes me so happy to see this rise. Hope they bring laurels to the country
