I saw Drishyam 3 on Prime last weekend and noticed Akshaye Khanna's character barely appears in the story - maybe just one scene - and there's no growth at all. I'm 100% sure that after reading the script AK would have thought "issmein mujhe kasainuma acting ka chance nahi milne wala, kat leta hun".

Seriously, did anyone else feel the same after watching the original?

It could also be that AD trimmed AK's role because they're planning a different ending from the original.

Ananya

Both versions will have different storylines.

Ganesh

That movie was terrible; the ending made no sense. It could have been half as long.

Vandana

I'm not up to date with Bollywood news, but I remembered seeing Akshaye Khanna in a trailer for Drishyam 3 and felt weird not seeing him in the film. I thought I'd played the wrong version, maybe he's in Ajay Devgn's one - lol. It made me paranoid, only to learn he'd dropped out.

Arvind

Yeah, the Malayalam version makes the police role feel much more functional than central, so I can see why people are connecting the dots. If the Hindi remake changes the climax, they might have reworked that character instead of doing a scene-for-scene copy.

Menon

Even Venkatesh didn't do the third part, which made us think something's off - his career is mostly remakes, and you'd expect him to jump on a hit franchise.

Part 3 is just meh.

Lakshmi

Kumar Mangat started spreading weird rumours about Akshaye just because he turned down the role.

Amrita

D1 was good, D2 was meh. Can we please stop with endless franchises? They ruin the original story.

Bhavesh

Exactly my thoughts! AK's character had no substance.

Why should Akshaye Khanna take roles that add no value to the film or his career? He isn't like other stars who ride on franchise success just to mint money and sleepwalk into movies.

We don't know what happened behind the scenes, but the diatribe from Mangat against AK was completely unprofessional and uncouth.
