Is Biochemistry‑to‑Bioinformatics path a good choice?

My background: a 3‑year NEET dropper (m21) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology in class 12. I'm planning this path and would love advice from folks in biochemistry, bioinformatics or related fields.

B.Sc. in Biochemistry.
During the degree I'll self‑study bioinformatics - Python, R, Linux, statistics, NGS analysis, etc.
I also want to build GitHub projects and put together a portfolio to showcase my skills.
After graduation I aim for a Master's in Bioinformatics.

Do you think this is a solid route in today's job market? Will the mix of biochemistry knowledge, self‑taught bioinformatics skills and a GitHub portfolio make me competitive for research roles, industry jobs or a PhD later on?

Also, which skills or technologies should I focus on during my B.Sc. years?

I'd really appreciate tips from anyone who's taken a similar path or is currently working in the field.

I appeared for CUET this year and I have only four options in life sciences: Biochemistry, Microbiology, Life Science, and B.Sc. in Biology with an integrated Master's in Bioinformatics. I could get Biotechnology, but not in a top college, so that's my last resort.

It can work if you put in the time to learn those tools and build projects.

You could also consider a B.Tech or M.Tech in Bioinformatics.
