Hey Reddit, my uncle (not very tech‑savvy) bought a second‑hand iPhone 17 Pro Max while I was away. I checked the AppleCare+ status online and it says it expires on 2 October 2033. The model number is MFYA4J/A, which looks like the Indian version.

All I know is AppleCare+ isn't sold as a 7‑year plan – Apple only offers up to 2 years.

What should I ask the shop he bought it from? Should he bring the bill and the box when he inquires? What questions should he ask to confirm the coverage is genuine before relying on it?

Tarun

Apple accounts normally include only 2 years of AppleCare+. Seeing 2033 is weird.

Ask him to get the original invoice from the seller; that can be very useful later.

Your phone might be a Japanese variant. Many iPhone 17 Pro Max units from Japan come with an 8‑plus year AppleCare+ subscription. It could be a system glitch, so visit the nearest Apple service centre to verify. If it's genuine, congratulations – you've got an unusually long coverage!

Use it to your advantage. Keep all receipts and document everything. Email Apple and ask for the exact end date. The support person will likely copy‑paste the info into chat – keep that as proof. You can later use it to request a replacement when the model is discontinued; they may have to give you a newer version.

Don't trust screenshots – they can be altered with AI. Get the phone in hand and verify directly with Apple. And Apple doesn't let you buy AppleCare+ after the 2‑year window.

Don't rely on the shop he bought it from. If possible, go to an authorised Apple store and check whether the phone is genuine. If you can't, contact Apple support. First confirm the device is real; it should still be under warranty since it's less than a year old. Only then worry about the AppleCare claim, because there's no plan that lasts this long.

AppleCare+ can only be up to 2 years. This screenshot looks edited.

It could be a corporate plan – big firms sometimes have Apple contracts that give 7‑8 years of AppleCare+ for employee devices.

Naman

If it appears in the iOS settings and on Apple's website, it's likely a corporate plan.
