My partner and I just got back from a week-long stay in Bhutan and here's our experience:

1) The country is absolutely stunning no matter which village, road, city or town you are in. We didn't find a single shady or unsafe lane and we are quite a bit of wanderers. Even if a street wasn't lit enough, it somehow felt very safe.

2) The people are the warmest and kindest, and rightly so. It's hard to feel sad when you live in a place as beautiful and peaceful as Bhutan. A random restaurant owner offered us a late-night ride to Punakha Dzong because he loved showing visitors around. He also drove us back safely to our hotel - something I'd be wary of in any other country. His restaurant served the best food we had in Bhutan.

3) Coming from a coastal town in India, we were blown away by the variety of fruit-bearing and flowering trees, the colourful blossoms, and the rivers flowing through busy cities yet staying so clean.

4) Our trip was packed with activities - the Tiger's Nest hike, river rafting on the Punakha River, archery, etc. - and we still didn't feel tired thanks to the peace and quiet the country offers.

5) We loved the local food; a few places were so good I still think about them. Neither of us are big fans of Indian food abroad, so we made the most of trying new dishes, local wines, whiskies and fresh fruits and veg.

6) Every corner of Bhutan was spotless. You can see it the moment you cross the border by road. Citizens enjoy free education, healthcare and subsidised goods for building houses and setting up businesses - something I can only hope for back home.

DM if you'd like recommendations for food, restaurants or drinks. I highly recommend visiting this country; you won't regret it. We'll definitely go again, this time exploring more of the eastern side beyond the usual Paro-Thimphu-Punakha-Phobjikha loop.

Amazing photos! What was your itinerary like? Could you share it with an approximate cost for two people?

I went to Bhutan in 2019 on a school trip. I absolutely loved the country; your post brought back so many warm memories! It's such a beautiful place and the people are amazing, which makes me want to visit Bhutan again. Maybe next year I will.

Oh yeah, I know - Tiger's Nest, right? Man, I loved Bhutan, the people, the views. It's going to be my top getaway.
