Did a crazy road trip through Manali, Vashisht, Kasol, Manikaran, Sissu, Keylong and Jispa. Temperatures dropped to -2°C, barely any sunlight, and the smooth roads made the drive thrilling. We had to stop every few minutes to admire the landscape and snap photos. Those raw Himalayan views, snow‑covered peaks and unreal valleys made every sub‑zero kilometre worth it.

The Maruti Jimny handled those mountain roads like a champ.

Chandigarh‑to‑Manali highway is smooth as butter. Manali, I must say, is the queen of hill stations – endless hidden corners and countless cafés. Kasol has a super vibrant vibe but the roads test your patience. Manikaran is great too; try to visit at noon to avoid crowds. Sissu to Keylong – no words, just postcard‑like scenery that makes you stare. Jispa is a cute, peaceful little gem, perfect for slowing down and just existing.

The Himalayas really hit different. Don't miss the hot‑water spring dip in Manali – even at 7 am it feels amazing.

Itinerary:
Day 1 – Chandigarh to Kasol/Manikaran
Day 2 – Kasol to Manali
Day 3 – Manali to Jispa and back to Manali
Day 4 – Chill in Manali, short trek and hot‑water spring
Day 5 – Manali to Chandigarh

Since it was a last‑minute plan, the trip was on the pricey side. But if you manage the bus, you can keep it around 1‑1.5K per day including stay and food.

Man, this sounds like one of those trips that stays in your head for years. The way you described Sissu, Keylong and Jispa genuinely makes me want to pack my bags right now.

I totally agree about Manali – people call it overrated, but once you start exploring the Vashisht side, the old Manali lanes, hidden cafés, hot springs and random mountain roads, you realise why it's still the queen of hill stations. I visited Manali this January; the view was amazing and the hills were covered in snow.

Your itinerary feels well balanced – not rushing too much yet covering the best vibes of Parvati and Lahaul together. The tip to visit Manikaran at noon is spot on; early mornings and evenings get insanely crowded.

The best part of Himalayan road trips is exactly what you mentioned – you plan to "reach somewhere" but end up stopping every 10 minutes because the mountains just won't let you drive peacefully.

Also, big plus for mentioning the budget reality. Last‑minute mountain trips can burn a hole in your pocket, but Himachal still remains one of the few places where backpackers can comfortably survive on a low daily budget if they plan right.

That brings back memories. I visited Manali and Kasol about 5 years ago.
