Google's AI requirements just showed how demanding on-device AI is becoming

Pavithra

Ninety‑nine percent of users don't need such advanced AI models. It feels like a marketing ploy by phone makers to make our phones look outdated.

Aren't you a bit worried about all the data we're feeding these models? It's like they know everything about us.

Nandini

Exactly, another reason to stick with mid-range phones.

Basavaraj

Seriously, who cares about that?

I'm happy with my phone as long as you overlook its terrible battery. The camera and processor are still better than most current mid-range phones, and the LineageOS support is the cherry on top.

Edit: My next phone will be a de-Googled graphene OS device – Motorola doesn't care about Google or its AI.

Mohaideen

But what about the Pixel 10a with 8 GB RAM?

Most of us have gotten by so far without AI, and I'm sure we'll continue to do so. No worries.

Even the two-year-old Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra doesn't meet the requirements for running Gemini Intelligence.

My Poco F7 has everything I need, except it gets one fewer Android update.

Arif

Bro, phones bought just a year or two ago with great specs are now ignored.
(Me with 8-Gen-3).
