I've always loved many of her movies because of their unique storylines and her brilliant acting. That said, not everyone will enjoy her films. What's your take?

I really liked the kind of films she picks – they have meaningful storytelling. Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil both went for socially conscious movies, like those about class inequality, women's autonomy, flawed women, sexuality, rural exploitation and urban loneliness. Their performances are subtle and bring real emotional depth. Can't wait for Batwara 1947; her role is the emotional core of the film.
