FPS spikes in RDR2 after pause

I'm playing on the highest settings and usually I get a steady 87 fps everywhere. But when I pause the game and then resume, the FPS goes crazy - today after a 1-hour break it jumped to a constant 165 fps even though the graphics and resolution look the same. What's going on? By the way, I have a 5060, not a 5090 or anything.

Ugh, my lobster turned out way too buttery.

While you're actually playing, the game has to render everything at the same time. When you pause, the surrounding elements get a chance to finish rendering, so you see a burst of around 165 fps for a few seconds before it settles back to about 87 fps as the game resumes normal rendering.

Bro, you're suffering from too much success.

Shivam

Keep playing, let's see if it ever hits four-digit FPS.

Meanwhile, my laptop's FPS on Valorant fell from 500 to 150 because the liquid metal dried up or got pumped out. I have an RTX 4080, but what's the use now?

Some games cap the FPS in menus while others don't, so what you're seeing is likely due to that. If it only lasts a second or two after loading a scene, try capping the FPS in the Nvidia control panel or app to get rid of the stuttery feel.

Resume after a 2-hour pause and post your FPS numbers below.

Prakash

Feel free to share your FPS when it hits a million - that would finally solve the global FPS crisis.

Larry

Looks like all the frames from that hour got displayed together. I'll try the same trick with a GTX 730 by pausing the game for a month - I should at least see a steady 60 fps.

You might have dynamic resolution scaling turned on with a target of 160 fps.
