RANT: Looking for a freshers' job in 2026 feels like watching paint dry. I was scrolling LinkedIn, asking for referrals, when a guy called me out of the blue and gave his two cents on hiring. He asked if I have a PF account – I said yes – and told me I'm screwed and have only 0.1% chance of getting a job. Great, my day and month are ruined, feels like life's a joke.

Why? Apparently if you already have a PF account, companies shy away because they don't get the tax incentive they get when hiring freshers without a PF/UAN.

Why do I have a PF account? I worked in a lousy company for 2 months, left (they absconded), and got stuck with that PF forever. Yes, it's my mistake, but does two months of my first job ruin my whole career?

Now I'm neither a fresher (because of PF) nor an experienced candidate because I have zero real experience. Should I just give up? Ugh.

THE HORRORS KEEP COMING AND I KEEP GOING!

(I have no idea how many more I can take.)

That guy is talking nonsense. PF doesn't decide hiring; skills and budget do. Lots of people get re‑hired after 1‑2 month stints – just be honest or leave the PF detail out early. Focus on projects, internships, networking. The fresher vs experienced tag is just a filter, not a legal rule. It's extremely tough to break in now; everything's slowed and job hunting feels like hell.

Straight resumes never worked for me – AI kept rejecting them. I finally started getting interviews after tailoring each resume with a tool called Jobowl. Google it.

Mohit

Lol, if that were true we'd see a flood of fresher hires, but it's the opposite now.

Shivendra

That's simply not true. When we start our career, the first employer must generate a UAN – Universal Account Number – as required by Indian labour law.

Under that UAN, each company creates its own PF account and deposits the monthly contribution. If you end up with multiple UANs or PF accounts, you can merge them on the EPFO portal.

The person you heard is outright lying. I've worked for 4 companies in my first 3 years and it never caused any issue. I just mentioned I already have a UAN and a new PF account was opened under it.

For eligible new hires under the employer‑incentive scheme:
• Up to ₹3,000 per employee per month
• Usually for 2 years; in the manufacturing sector it can extend to 4 years in some cases

A typical slab from official summaries:
Salary up to ₹10,000 → incentive ₹1,000/month
₹10,000‑₹20,000 → ₹2,000/month
₹20,000‑₹1,00,000 → ₹3,000/month

This is not a tax benefit.

Focus on improving your skills and getting hired for what you can do, not for any fresher incentives. You won't be a fresher forever, and companies now look for people who can deliver results cost‑effectively. The days of hiring based on college name or years of experience are gone.

Many Tier‑1 firms now hire purely on skill.

Having a PPF or NPS account usually doesn't affect employment checks, as they are personal investment or pension accounts. Even an EPF/PF account isn't a problem.

What can raise flags is if you work for two companies at the same time. If both employers contribute to EPF under the same UAN, the second company may spot overlapping employment during background verification and suspect moonlighting.

Arjit

What nonsense! There's no tax benefit for hiring freshers, brother.

Ananya

The PF incentive is only a few thousand rupees. If you can't convince a recruiter that you're worth more than that, you're in trouble.

Tanya

My upskilling plans are messed up, these hours are killing me.

Sachin

That's nonsense. Don't listen to random fools.
