If the plant isn't properly sterilised or is in poor condition, you could end up with an infection - it's similar to drinking fresh raw milk straight from a cow.

Hemant

I think it helps with hydration; I use a commercial aloe vera gel though.

Yash

I think it's good for both hair and skin, and I usually buy the red‑aloe vera variety.

I'd say if you use fresh gel after washing it properly you should be fine. I've seen my mom use it occasionally. In my opinion, try it for a few days; if there's no bad reaction, keep using it. It's probably better to use fresh garden‑grown gel daily rather than buying it.

Aishwarya

Do a patch test and clean the leaf properly - soak it in water for 20 min to drain the yellow sap, then wash it thoroughly. Also check the different aloe varieties available.

Nath

Raw aloe can irritate some people's skin - do a patch test first.

Nikhil

My skin gets irritated whenever I apply raw aloe gel directly. I use Urban Botanics aloe vera gel instead - it feels very cooling and I reach for it after a face wash when I want to skip my usual routine.

Arvind

Some folks are allergic or have reactive skin and hair, so they can't use it at all. It also speeds up skin absorption, so avoid applying medicated topicals or acids before or after using aloe.
