I've been prepping for government jobs for some time now and I realise I need a backup—can't keep going without one. I'm an engineer by qualification, had decent work experience, but I've kind of forgotten programming. I'm in my late 20s; how can I bounce back in my career? What options can I look into—business, stock trading, a corporate job? What should be my backup? Please help, I haven't been able to sleep all night.

Please, please, please have a backup. And don't spend more than three years on this unpredictable stuff.

I prepared for UPSC for four years and cleared prelims only twice. I've now joined a corporate job in my engineering niche as a trainee on a freshers' salary. The good part is it's in my hometown, so expenses are low, and the domain is evergreen.
But people are really suffering— even those with eight years of experience and solid skills are getting laid off left and right.
You've heard of Oracle; now you'll hear about the Amazon debacle.

Consider doing an MBA from a decent college. Get certifications in data analytics and other relevant fields based on the vertical you prefer. Be honest during interviews.
