Hawa Mahal truly is the main character of Jaipur, but the view from the street is about 10x better than from inside. My top tip for anyone going: skip the entry ticket and head straight to one of the cafés opposite. You'll get the iconic photo and a cold drink without standing in the 1,000‑person queue. Also, if you visit at sunrise, the light on the pink sandstone is magical, the traffic hasn't started yet and the city feels completely different.
