He can go for hours without texting me and be totally fine. It's not that he doesn't care, he's genuinely swamped most of the time. I get that and I don't expect him to be on my phone 24/7. But I also need some regular connection to feel secure.

When that doesn't happen I feel hurt and disconnected. Instead of telling him, I pull away, which makes him notice, feel hurt, and we end up arguing. This cycle has been happening a lot lately.

For example, yesterday we fought, then made up, had dinner and spent some really nice time together. It felt reassuring.

Today he went to his cousin's place where nobody knows about us (we're keeping it secret), so he couldn't really talk. He didn't speak to me all day and when he finally called, it was just a 30‑second "I'm okay" before hanging up.

Now I feel heavy inside. I'm not sure if I'm asking for too much or if my needs are valid. Even if I tell him everything, he can't act on it because he has to update his brother and family about his activities. I don't want to keep repeating this pattern of getting hurt, withdrawing, and fighting.

Has anyone been through this? How do you handle needing more communication when your partner is genuinely busy?

Dilip

You get used to it, find solace in personal hobbies or work, and spend the mutually free time together. It's not realistic to be chatting every few hours all day, so having a fulfilling personal life is important too.

Shruti

Communication is a form of respect. No matter how busy someone is, they can spare 10 seconds for a quick text.

Wanting a little consistency isn't clingy, it's just basic emotional connection. You have a very human response. Even if he can't talk much, a small effort from his side matters because it's not about time, it's about reassurance. Your needs are valid – don't shrink them to fit his schedule.

OP sounds like my girlfriend. I tell her that the moments spent apart make the moments together truly special, and I try to make every chance we get together count.
