I'm a 25M from India, with an MTech in Signal Processing and Communication. I worked as a software engineer for 1.5 yrs and just got laid off. I'm tired of these jobs and want something stable, but I'm not sure which field to choose. I have an NIT MTech and was earning 15LPA. My work experience is mainly software, not much in signal processing.

1. VLSI – I have some knowledge in VLSI, should I try a service-based role for 7-8LPA? I have many friends in VLSI companies, but they are also doing layoffs (e.g., Intel, Samsung).

2. Stay in signal processing and communication, look for a job with the same or slightly lower salary.

3. Join defence startups even if the pay is half my current salary.

4. Keep doing software since my skills match that role.

5. Go for government jobs.

6. Write GATE again, get into an IIT, and start teaching in JEE coaching centres.

7. Take a small remote job so I can stay with my parents. My father is ill and I want to look after him.

8. Move to Germany or another European country for an MTech in VLSI or a PhD.

Which option is good and why?

Right now, almost none of the jobs give much stability and peace of mind except government jobs. I'd suggest you write GATE and aim for a PSU.
