AC buying mistake: ignore room size & star rating

I've noticed many people pick an AC just by its tonnage or price, and that can bite you later.

Room size is the first thing to check. For a typical 120-150 sq ft room, a 1.3-to-1.5 ton unit usually does the job. But if the room is on the top floor or gets direct sunlight, the cooling load shoots up.

The other big slip-up is ignoring the star rating. A 5-star AC costs more upfront, but its lower power consumption can save a lot if you run it many hours each day. For lighter summer use, a 3-star can still be fine.
