I recently went on a trip to Chandrashila and I'm still reeling from the experience. I took the Ghaziabad to Haridwar train which cost me Rs 900. Then I booked a hotel in Haridwar for Rs 500. The bus from Haridwar to Kund cost Rs 430 and from Kund to Ukhimath it was Rs 40. I rented a scooty for 24 hours for Rs 1300. I stayed at a hotel in Chopta for Rs 2500 which was good for 3-4 people. I also rented trek gear for Rs 450. The food cost me between Rs 200-400 per meal. I used to plan this trip for over a year. I first tried in January but the season's first snowfall on 23rd Jan ruined my plan. I tried again in April but the weather forecast showed rain so I postponed. Finally, I went on the Ambedkar Jayanti weekend. The forecast still showed rain but I decided to go anyway. I took the Vande Bharat train from Ghaziabad at 6 PM and reached Haridwar at 9:30 PM. I checked into a hotel and went for a stroll to check bus timings. The next morning I woke up at 5:30 and rushed to the bus stand only to find that the Ukhimath bus had left 5 minutes ago. I had a backup plan to take a bus to Rudraprayag or Kund and then a taxi. Luckily, I found a private bus to Kund and hopped in. The ride was okay and we stopped at a dhaba near the Alaknanda River. I met a Nepali kid on the bus who was heading to Kedarnath for work. I reached Kund around 2 PM and waited for a taxi to Ukhimath. A lady helped me get a taxi and I reached Ukhimath. I had trouble finding a scooty rental but eventually found one. I rented a scooty, bought a raincoat and started for Chopta. The weather was pleasant till Sari village but then it started raining and hailing. I stopped at a temple and waited for the storm to calm down. When it slowed down, I rode to Chopta. I parked the scooty and looked for a place to stay. The prices were inflated due to recent snowfall but I got a room for Rs 2500. I changed into dry clothes, had dinner and rented gear for the trek. I woke up at 2:30 AM and started the trek. The trail was well-paved and I reached Tungnath temple. I offered prayers and soaked in the views. I put on my crampons and continued to Chandrashila summit. The views were breathtaking and I felt like I was on top of the world.

Chandrashila really is a cheat code for the best views in Uttarakhand! Standing at the summit and seeing Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba all at once is a total 'Main Character' moment. There is a very specific kind of 'Sukoon' in that thin air that you just can't find anywhere else. Did you manage to catch the sunrise at the top, or was this a mid-day trek?
