The government is bringing in the *Constituency Delimitation Bill* in a special 3-day parliament session from April 15-17. Lok Sabha seats are increasing from 543 to 816. Plus, there are implications for the Rajya Sabha, new staff, offices, security, bungalows, and pensions that will be paid out for the next 30-40 years. Why is there no news about this? No party has a financial incentive to oppose this bill. The only ones who lose are us, the taxpayers. 1 MP costs the exchequer ₹42.9 lakh/year. New Lok Sabha MPs being added: 273. Annual cost of just new MPs: ₹1,171 crore/year. Over one 5-year term: ~₹5,855 crore. The full 816 MP Lok Sabha annual cost: ~₹3,500 crore/year. Plus, State Assembly expansion: estimated ₹5,000-8,000 crore/year. New Parliament infra, staff, security scaling: Conservative 5-year bill to taxpayer: ₹40,000-50,000 crore+. And this is just the direct cost. Each MP also gets: ₹5 crore/year MPLAD fund, rent-free bungalow in Delhi, free train and air travel for life, free medical, ₹31,000/month pension after just one term, dedicated staff, security, and vehicles. MPLAD alone: 816 × ₹5 crore = ₹4,080 crore per year. Not only that, to support the livelihood of our poor politicians, every single one of them gets lifetime pensions upon serving for just 5 years. Now, what do you get for your money? 46% of elected MPs have criminal cases. 93% are crorepatis! So, we are paying more for more of the same people doing even less work. Most people filing ITR have no idea this is happening because no news channel is giving it primetime – because their owners have political interests too. If you're in the tax bracket, a meaningful chunk of what you paid in advance tax this March is going toward funding politicians who attend Parliament 55 days a year, pass laws in 7 minutes, and will now get 273 more colleagues doing the same. This is not left vs right; it's taxpayers vs a system that just voted itself a massive raise – with your money, without asking you. Stop thinking this is a BJP or Congress issue; it's a taxpayer vs. the entire political class issue.

If one MP costs 42.9 lakhs/year, 273 new MPs will cost 117 crs/year. Over 5 years, 585 crs. And for 816 MPs, 350 crs/year. All numbers are off by a factor of 10. To put it in perspective, India's annual expenditure budget is 53 lakh crs. 117 crs additional expenditure on 53 lakh crs is closer to 0.002%. Also, having smaller constituencies would mean MPs are more accessible, more representation, especially for urban areas, etc.

There's a mistake in your calculation. 42.9 lakhs per MP per year. 816 MPs. Total = 117.1 crores instead of 1171 crores you mentioned.
