I finished my B.Com from Calcutta University in August 2023. I spent the next year trying for CAT – took it twice but didn't clear it for an MBA. At the start of 2025 I switched to banking exams, but the results have all come out and I haven't cleared any of them. I now have a three‑year gap with no work experience. I'm feeling anxious and nervous about my career. Please tell me how I can get back on track.

Remind me in two days.
Kyun bhai, kya hua?
I'm in the exact same boat; walked the same path.
You're not alone in this. A three‑year gap may feel heavy, but it can be explained honestly and turned into a positive story if you start building practical skills. With a B.Com you can aim for entry‑level roles in accounting, finance operations, or data work by learning Tally, GST, Excel, basic SQL or Power BI. Pick one skill, train for 6‑8 weeks, and start applying to internships or junior positions – even if the pay is modest. The first experience will boost your confidence and the gap will stop being a big issue. Feel free to DM me for personal guidance.
Just do a master's degree to stop the gap from getting bigger.
Bro, calm down. Stop scrolling on your phone – most of the stress comes from seeing friends living it up on social media. You don't have to match that; just find any job, even a low‑pay one, to get things moving. I get why you're looking for advice online, but nobody really knows your exact situation, so it may not help much.
You could fill the AMU‑CAT form and pursue an MBA from AMU. Placements are average (around 6‑7 LPA), but the fee is much lower than other colleges, so the ROI is better. The exam isn't too hard if you've already prepared for CAT, and it can give you a decent career start.
Grab any job right now. Once you're settled, give the GMAT a try and consider a one‑year full‑time executive MBA.
I was on the same train, buddy. Eventually I found some momentum – my post‑grad helped a lot.
I graduated in 2021 and am working now. My advice: update your CV and start applying as a fresher. Be honest about the gap – you can list CAT preparation and your score; it won't hurt your impression. At least get a job while you keep preparing for CAT.
