Title: IB ACIO vs CGL – which to pick?
Post by: Aman on Mar 30, 2026, 04:05 AM
Many of us have cleared both exams and the ACIO interview is about to begin. I'm curious— which one would you pick and why?

CGL 4600 (especially ASOs, ITI and GST) any day, bro. I have a couple of friends in IB as ACIOs—no holidays, irregular duty hours, no choice of posting, a very restrained lifestyle, huge responsibilities, but the pay is better (13‑month salary plus 20 % security allowance) and promotions come faster. One of them is an ACIO‑I (4800 GP) after just three years. For government aspirants on 2400 or 2800 looking to upgrade grade pay before turning 30, this can be an option, since IB is a Group C post and offers age concession up to 40 for central govt employees with three years of service.

From my view, being an ACIO is like a Bharat Jodo Yatra. Later you might want stability for your kids' education and family life. IB doesn't give you location stability; the perks are higher (13‑month salary and extra allowances in tough areas), but if you value staying in one place, it's not for me.

Same question: if I plan to prepare for UPSC, which should I choose? (I've been selected for both.)
