Title: Worst feeling ever
Post by: Subhash on Mar 29, 2026, 07:43 PM
I was at the exam centre for the PCS mains.
Two candidates arrived about 5 min late, but they weren't let in. I felt really bad for them. They had cleared the prelims after several attempts, and now this happened. Their parents were helpless. Meanwhile, some uncles and aunties started lecturing about time‑management. I know candidates should come early, but this isn't the time for a lecture. Please try to reach the centre 30‑45 min before the exam and, if possible, settle in the city a day earlier.

This was also my centre for the 2024 UPPCS Mains held in June 2025.

If rules were enforced this strictly everywhere, we'd have a perfect world. People love to harass whoever they can.

This is really sad to read. Yes, candidates should reach early, but when someone is already going through such a painful moment, they deserve empathy first, not lectures. A lot of hard work and hope goes into reaching mains, and I truly feel for those candidates and their families.

True, aspirants should keep a buffer of at least an hour. You never know what can go wrong – a flat tyre, a minister's rally, a road blockade. You've been preparing for a year or more, so arriving an hour early keeps you relaxed, calm and focused on the exam.
Best of luck to all the aspirants!

I missed entry for the IB exam because my parents were fighting and my dad left late. I didn't mind much since I hadn't studied and just tried to attempt the paper.

I remember my father would literally drag me to the centre 2‑3 hrs early for every exam. You never know what can happen. Always settle in the city a day before!

Bro, candidates need to be at the centre at least an hour before the exam. If they can't be punctual, maybe they shouldn't get the job. Less deserving people can be on time, so punctuality is the easiest way to prove yourself. No arguments.

Mere gharwale bhi ek ghante ka buffer leke chalte hain... Exam centre ke bahar pehle breakfast, chai, phir paper – ek choti si picnic!

If they were allowed to sit, they might later claim they had less time and could have scored more with the full duration. You need a hard cutoff for certain things; otherwise people will keep trying to game the system. This seems fair to me.

No offense, but what are they supposed to do? If someone is 10 min late they're allowed, what if another arrives 2 min later? Another 2 min isn't much, right? And then another 2 min... When does it stop? If a time is given, the gates should close at that time unless it's the management's fault for not checking students in quickly. Otherwise, there's not much that can be done.
