WhatsApp is launching a username feature along with the option to hide your mobile number. You'll get a username and can keep your number private.
Isn't this similar to Telegram?
What do you think - is it a good idea? Will it make WhatsApp feel like Telegram?

Great idea - it's not just a Telegram thing, it's a basic feature anyone would want.
One thing I don't like about usernames is when they're already taken.
I stopped using this app about a year ago, along with all other Meta products.

So it's slowly turning into something almost identical to Telegram.
My username will be the same on WhatsApp as it is on Reddit.

Why are they adding useless features? Only scammers will benefit from this!
You can't pick any unique username. If that name is already active on Instagram or Facebook, only they can claim it. When you try to use it, they'll ask you to link your Instagram to WhatsApp for verification.
