I love the IPL and all, but it's killed ODIs and red-ball cricket. Unless it's a World Cup semi-final or final, no one watches long matches. For the WTC final, people don't even realise it's a cycle; they only glance at scorecards if a crazy performance hits the headlines. T20 is the only format people actually watch.

I think people have lost patience because we're constantly online. A shorter attention span comes from scrolling for hours, a trend that's only emerged in the last five years. Without T20 or the IPL, overall cricket viewership might have collapsed. So thanks to T20 and the IPL, I still have a format I can watch despite my recent shortcomings.

Completely agree. I can't even recall the last bilateral series I watched that wasn't BGT or the Ashes. We should extend the IPL window and make it a weekend experience like football leagues so fatigue doesn't hit fans or players too soon. Do something other than generic bilateral series that no one wants to watch.
My dad used to take a half-day off work for an India-Pakistan match. Now I don't even know a series is on until I stumble upon the scorecard. That's the damage cricket has done to itself.
