Title: Salary hike left me shocked
Post by: Keshav on Jun 18, 2026, 04:45 PM
I worked at a firm for 4.5 years with a salary of INR 70k.

Recently, due to restructuring, I was laid off. Still reeling, I had a heated discussion with HR about the severance. On the same day, I received an offer from a company based in India. The new role is work‑from‑home, serving the client directly.

I'll be helping them get familiar with the product, troubleshooting, etc.

I'm thrilled to share that my salary will now be around INR 1.58 lakhs per month, paid in US dollars.

It feels almost unreal and I even feel a bit guilty thinking about earning that much. I can't tell if it's just luck or timing. When you feel undervalued, do you start doubting your worth? It still feels like a dream.

Congrats on doubling your salary! I also just got an offer with a 60 % hike, but yours looks unreal in this economy.

Keep switching jobs every 2 to 2.5 years. Loyalty is overrated!

Back in 2018 I jumped from 6 LPA to 13 LPA overnight after a new manager decided to pay me based on value. That shift changed my mindset, and I went from 13 LPA in 2018 to earning 98 lakhs last year.

I was in the same boat - earning 50k, left that job, and now I'm making 1.1 L.

Is it a SAP consultancy role or something in digital marketing?

Congrats!

Could you share a list of your skills, if you don't mind?

I'm looking to move out of a technical role and am not sure where to aim besides a business analyst position.

Congrats. It's good to see people moving on from loyalty to a strategic switch for a big hike.

By the way, you mentioned dollars, so I assume it's a contract role. You'll also save a lot on taxes using section 44ADA.
