Title: Feedback on my deadlift form
Post by: Damini on May 22, 2026, 07:39 AM
I'm a 30-year-old, 74 kg, trying to lift 96 kg. My friends are giving me mixed opinions. I'd appreciate any comments on my form and any tips to improve.

Bro, begin with lower weights and perfect your form first. Don't ego-lift. Nobody's counting how many kilos you lift just to applaud you.

Bro, you'll hurt yourself if you keep that up! Wear a belt and keep your back straight while lifting. Get a trainer to fix your posture and technique, or watch a few YouTube videos.

What's right here? Start with lighter weights. Don't bend your back - it will hurt badly. I recommend watching some YouTube tutorials and copying the technique, and also filming yourself to compare. If you can, ask a trainer for help. The way you're doing it now is wrong and can lead to injury.

Terrible. Instead of ego-lifting, start with lighter weights and get a trainer to guide you while you perform the lift. Asking on Reddit won't replace real-world coaching from an experienced person.

I don't even deadlift, but I can see the form is terrible - the back is rounded.

Bhai, from what I see it's really bad. You're loading too much onto your back and it's not safe. Your back isn't straight, which can cause long-term damage.

From what I know, the deadlift is mostly about the legs - use your legs and keep your spine neutral.

First, ditch those soft-sole shoes. They destabilise you. Deadlift barefoot or in a hard-soled shoe and you'll feel the difference - the lifts become crisp.

Make sure the bar is over the middle of your foot. It looks a bit too far forward on your toes, so double-check that.

You're doing touch-and-go reps and breathing between them. Stop that. Return the bar to the ground at the end of each rep, then breathe in, brace, and pull. Keep the air in until the bar is back down - it helps with lockout.

Your first rep looked the best, but by the 3rd-4th rep your back started rounding on the way down. That's not good. Lower the bar quickly but under control, brace, and then start the next rep.

Remember, treat each rep as its own special set. Don't lose focus on breathing and bracing across multiple reps.

Good luck!

Based on the video, the setup and form are all wrong:
- Your back is rounding.
- You need to pull the slack from the bar to activate the lats.
- The bar should stay close to your shins on the way up and down.
- Your arms must be in line with your knees before you lift.
- Think of pushing the floor away with your feet, not pulling the bar with your back. Right now the weight is on your lower back.
- Stabilise your core before you lift.
- Hinge at the hips.

There are plenty of videos on proper deadlift setup and form. Good luck!

1. First, brace and push air into your abdomen.
2. Grip the bar and squeeze your armpits to tighten the lats.
3. Pull the slack while keeping the lats engaged.
4. Drive with your legs, keep your back as tight as possible, and hinge.

It's fine, bhai, as long as you don't strain your back. The idea of a perfectly straight spine is a myth - a slight curve will always be there.
