Note: I'm not a career counsellor and I'm still early in my current role, so this is just my personal take.
Hi everyone,
I'm working as a Senior Software Engineer at a large networking firm and have about 4 years of experience.
Lately there's a lot of talk about layoffs and job security in tech. My own company even had layoffs, and after the whole Oracle drama the market feels tougher for engineers than before.
If you have questions about:
- switching jobs
- interview preparation
- networking or domain engineering
- resume strategy
- salary growth
just drop them here. I'll try to give practical, no‑fluff advice based on what I've seen.
Is a software engineering career worth it for the long run? How do you think jobs will change or shift?
How can someone without a tech background become a core ML engineer – the kind who actually builds AI models and neural networks? Is this path realistic?
My plan would be:
- BSc in Mathematics
- Masters in AI from IISc
- PhD in AI/ML from a top overseas university
Does that sound feasible?
Hey! I'm a stats graduate with a master's degree, currently working as an analyst. Entry‑level data science roles feel pretty replaceable these days. Any guidance you can give?
I'm leaning towards the ML route because of my background, but the field feels so broad – it jumps from modelling (what I love) to a lot of CS stuff. It's hard to focus on the right skills.
Also, what's your take on the AI hype that every organisation is pushing? Do you think the bubble will burst?
Lastly, if you had to pick one industry or domain to jump into right now, what would it be? I saw a popular SWE say he's in fintech because he thinks it's the future.
I'm a 2025 graduate and didn't get placed. Will there be any opportunities later? I've tried referrals, ATS, networking, cold emails, but I keep getting ghosted. What should I do?
Is doing an MTech worth it, or should I join a job to gain experience? Which is better?
Also, is DSA still needed for switching roles now that interview processes might change because of AI? What's your opinion?
Will AI replace our jobs?

I've heard QA is going to die out soon and I want to know what you think about that!
Where should I pivot ASAP? Data engineering, DevOps, backend, or something else?
Any general advice would be appreciated!

What's the current market outlook for the MERN stack?
What specific skills within MERN help you learn and grow your career?
As someone with a career gap and no work experience, how can I break into tech? I'm currently learning Java backend. I graduated in ECE in 2021. Please suggest.
I just finished my B.Tech in CSE and I'm thinking of going for a data engineer role. Is it worth it?
