Hey everyone, I don't have before‑after pics because they're a bit scary, but I did a little experiment from February to April to see if moving from SPF 30 to SPF 50 makes any real difference or if the online hype is just over the top.
For context, I kept everything else exactly the same – same moisturizer, cleanser, diet, sleep schedule, no new actives, no facials, nothing. I even stuck to the same makeup so I wouldn't confuse the results.
The only changes were switching from SPF 30 to SPF 50 and making sure I re‑applied once around midday.
The first two weeks felt pretty similar. I was a bit annoyed because I expected SPF 50 to work like magic.
But by the end of February I started noticing small differences. After long car rides or walking in the afternoon sun, my face usually looks a bit dull and tired by evening, especially around the mouth and forehead. That happened much less. My overall skin tone looked more even and I didn't get that extra darker shade by week's end.
In March the change became clear. I commute a lot and in peak summer my tan usually becomes very uneven. This time my skin still tanned a little, but it faded faster and didn't look patchy. Even my old acne marks stopped looking extra dark after being outside.
Unexpectedly, I think the re‑application habit mattered more than the SPF number itself. Earlier I'd put on SPF 30 at 8 am and be shocked when my face looked cooked by 5 pm. Once I started re‑applying properly, my skin looked less irritated overall. The texture seemed calmer, probably because I wasn't getting low‑level sun damage every day.
That said, SPF 50 didn't magically fix everything. My dark circles stayed the same, deeper pigmentation didn't disappear, and it's not an overnight glow‑up.
But for Indian summers, I do think the upgrade is worth it if you spend a decent amount of time outdoors.

Which sunscreen did you use?
Yes, tell me.
Which sunscreen were you using before, and which one did you switch to now? Also, how much were you applying each time?
I was also skeptical about moving to SPF 50 because it meant a higher budget. Then I came across SayaCare Sunscreen – it's super lightweight, acne‑friendly, and I really like it.
Which sunscreen do you use?
You were probably using some influencer‑hyped brand like Mama Earth, Dot & Key, WishCare or Renee. Many of these don't actually deliver the SPF they claim on the pack. Some sunscreens labeled as SPF 50 have tested as low as SPF 5‑9. You're likely seeing better results now because, by switching brands and SPF levels, you finally have proper sun protection.
How many times do you re‑apply it?
