You can pick up drawers like that from Ikea. Most people use them this way – get the drawers and then build a desk on top.
Frankly, it isn't that bad. The poor lighting makes the bottom piece look worse.
And yes, the longer side should have been a little longer; other than that, the bottom one is quite decent.
That happened to me too, but my carpenter ended up delivering something far better than my reference.
It's a dimension issue.
Don't blame the carpenter, buddy – maybe the brief wasn't clear enough. Mine did a great job.

The original picture is just two Ikea drawers and a tabletop (also from Ikea). You messed up, buddy – that would probably run you around 15‑18k for the table with the premium Ikea finish and no sharp edges.
