Title: ₹1 Cr net worth at 28 - what worked
Post by: Chetan on May 03, 2026, 01:51 AM
Hello everyone,

I'm a 28‑year‑old female working in tech sales. I started earning and investing at 21 without any financial guidance. I hit this goal a week before my wedding, which made it extra special.

Current Portfolio Split:
Mutual Funds: ₹44.75L
Gold: ₹27L
EPF: ₹13.45L
U.S. Equity + RSUs: ~₹6.3L
Cash / Savings: ₹11.5L
(Only my savings, no inheritance)

Why I'm sharing this:
I'm not a sophisticated investor. My portfolio is simple and conservative. I wanted to share a story of consistency and decent research that can still help you reach meaningful milestones, with patience and time for compounding.

Biggest Learnings:
1. Start early, even with small amounts. You don't need to be an expert to begin.
2. Increase investments every time your income rises.
3. Keep lifestyle inflation in check.
4. Stay consistent; compounding needs time.

What I'd do differently:
1. I invested too heavily in large‑cap funds initially. Later I shifted to a healthier mix.
2. Could have taken a bit more stock‑market risk earlier.
3. Over‑allocated to gold as my only diversification.

Goal for the next phase:
1. Diversify into stocks and global markets, aiming for the second crore.
2. Add land investments if everything works out.
3. Build a passive income stream.

Happy to hear suggestions from the community for the second crore and diversification.

Thanks for all the posts in this group! They really helped.

What passive income sources do you have? I've been looking for ideas.

I'm at 2.7 cr at 27. My two cents:

Do whatever mix you want with Indian mutual funds; their XIRR usually settles around 12‑15 % per annum – pretty good, but we can do better.

Stock investment is riskier; you need to understand timing, valuations and growth. Indian stocks today are pricey relative to growth. Beyond the N200 level there are good opportunities, though they're harder to find and riskier because assessing management becomes important.

You're right about investing in global markets. The current AI wave will create massive wealth.

Land investment is a solid idea, but not every plot is worth buying. Generally look for areas with upcoming development projects and low prices.

Why are the RSUs so low? Did you just join the company or do you sell them often?

Just to add, as your corpus grows, asset allocation gets even more crucial. The right mix of equity, debt, global markets and alternatives should be based on your goals and timeline, not just what feels comfortable. It's worth mapping that out deliberately before moving into new asset classes.

Your allocation clearly leans toward stability and downside protection, especially with gold, EPF and mutual funds. That makes sense since you started without any guidance.

Can you tell us how you got into tech sales?

Many folks on Reddit would be interested.

Do you sell B2B SaaS to enterprises, IT services to other businesses, or something else?

Could you explain how you built this fund using mutual funds? Also, is the gold you hold physical or in ETFs? How much do you set aside each month as savings?
