Amazon is now making all its senior engineers get their code approved after having several outages recently

Every single person needs to get their code approved, it does not matter how senior you are. This is not really new, even the CTO has to get his code reviewed before it can be pushed.

The real challenge is actually reviewing the code. These days juniors are just shipping off any code that has been written by copilot. The people who review the code are held responsible for it, so they should be paid more or else there will be disruptions.

No matter who has written the code, it has to be reviewed by someone else. Our company is really small but we have been doing this for 15 years now, I am surprised that this was not already the norm at Amazon.

If you are going to review code thoroughly, it is pretty much the same as writing it yourself. I do not see the point of using large language models for this, it is just going to create a huge bottleneck.
