Easy, you just apply for a VIP number with any operator. They'll give you a number and set your caller ID to show "private number" by default. People can still call you on that number, but when you call someone who doesn't have you saved, it will display "private number". In my opinion it's not worth the price - it's only useful for a short period.
There's a government rule that forces the registered name of a SIM‑card holder to appear on incoming calls if the number isn't saved... Private number.

Parvati, that's the name, mate.

What are the real benefits of a private number? Is it only for outgoing calls?
If you legally change your name to 'Private Number', that's what will appear on KYC‑linked records! Just kidding. In theory, if you hide your caller ID, anyone you call will see 'private number'. You're not invisible, just the number isn't shown.
Just change the name to Parvati Nambiar.
I saw a post from the US where a guy, fed up with spam calls, registered his number so that he earns money every time he receives a call. Any idea if we can do something similar in India?
What if someone uses a private number for scams? How can we report them?
