To be honest, it's unlikely now that it's on the front page everywhere, unless crude prices stay high for a long time.

Don't do that, people will believe it and start queuing at the petrol pumps.

So the price would be around Rs 130 or so? A masterstroke to ease the petrol‑diesel crunch by pushing people toward solar and electric vehicles. Yay.

The government spreads deliberate misinformation so that when they actually hike prices by Rs 10‑12, we think Modi ji saved us.

This feels like a reverse‑psychology stunt, trying to get the government to hold off on raising prices. To be fair, they have been levying hefty taxes even after E20 was introduced, while oil prices were low. Let them bear the brunt of the situation.

Stock up on food. The mega El Niño is set to damage crops this year, and we may face food shortages. Invest accordingly. NFA – do your own research.

They'll raise it by Rs 15‑18 and label the Rs 25‑28 range as fake news, while Modi supporters call it a masterstroke. Remember the Kamra fact‑check that showed 21.8k versus 22k? Lol.

How the government pulls this off:

1. Media manipulation / internet rumours – an anonymous source leaks an upcoming price hike.
   Why? To test public reaction.

2. News outlets start reporting the highest possible rise (Rs 25‑28 per litre).
Why? To make the extreme scenario seem inevitable.

3. The government or OMCs announce a hike that's only half the rumored amount.
Objective – to appear reasonable or as if they listened to people.

This is the psychological game. Because the public was already scared of a Rs 25 hike, the government and OMCs didn't raise it all at once. They used a "slow‑drip" method.

Like in 2022 after the state elections in five states (UP, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur), the hike started at Rs 0.80 per day for 15 days.
