Title: Job getting automated - need advice
Post by: Kalpana on Apr 20, 2026, 09:22 AM
I'm working as a data engineer in a service-based firm, and our client is a software product company. Lately they've started using Claude Code skills to handle routine RTB work - which is about 50% of what I do.

It feels like a big chunk of my job is being automated right before my eyes.

I'm trying to understand what this means for my role and my career. What should I do? How are others in similar spots adapting? Are there particular skills I should focus on to stay relevant?

Would really appreciate any advice from folks going through the same thing.

Hey buddy,

Why isn't this worrying you? Of course it should make you a bit anxious.

You'll need to pick up AI skills - like how to do data engineering more efficiently with AI.

Start using AI in your daily tasks and show what you've learned to your teammates and managers.

That's the way forward. Your leaders need to see you as a smart colleague who knows how to use AI and solve problems.

Best wishes!

All service-based firms will eventually shut down and product-based companies will hire talent in-house.
