Title: Learnt market value & rejected; Govt job makes me high value in AM
Post by: Raj on Apr 18, 2026, 02:49 AM
*Warning: Long post. Skip to last for TLDR.*

My parents have been searching for a match through the arranged marriage setup. I've told them to not disturb me, but they still send profiles and ask me to take a look. Lately, they've been pushing one girl's profile a lot. I asked them why they're so interested, and they showed me the conversation with her dad. I was shocked.

He's only interested in my govt job and that our horoscopes match. He's been talking to my dad daily, saying things like "we like your family very much" and "we can't wait to proceed". He even said his daughter will agree to anything he decides. My dad responded in the same way. I hadn't even said yes, and they were already planning everything. They don't even know each other or me.

The girl's family showed my profile to her, and she said yes. That's why they're in a hurry. They think it's hard to find someone with a govt job. I'm a stranger, and they're willing to marry their daughter to me just because of my job. What if I lose my job or get into trouble? I clearly said no to my mom and asked them to stop.

My dad was unhappy, and we had a fight. He told the girl's dad, and they got offended. They thought we rejected them because of their background. The girl's dad started offering my dad things like a house, a Mahindra Thar, a tractor, and gold jewellery. He even listed everything he was willing to give me.

I was furious. It's like they thought they could buy me. My mom laughed and told the girl's mom that there's a horoscope issue, and they stopped messaging. I feel sorry for the girl; she thinks her dad is finding her the right match. The arranged marriage concept feels flawed and transactional.

I don't know, I do get that the post may not be directly putting things in perspective for the readers. Feels like boasting from the tone of it. To some extent the fault is from your family's side as well, as they feed the girl's family's expectations without clearing things with you.

Bro, here there are corporate slaves like me. Who make a lot of money, living in a tier 1 city, far from my hometown. And we need to chase the girl's parents. I can't imagine being in your position. Forget dowry, no one even takes much interest in me.

Your market value is definitely high! Not everyone gets proposed to with a full real estate + farming + horsepower bundle. I am glad you hit pause before the situation progressed to tractor handover ceremony. The family discussions did sound like it's an auction where nobody bothered to check if the product even wants to be listed.

Don't feel pity on girl. There is a reason her father is so desperate. I was also offered one petrol pump but I refused, because girl was like papa ki pari

He could have given all that to his own daughter and she would have been happier for it
