Title: Isotretinoin update after three years of treatment and experience
Post by: Manoj on Mar 11, 2026, 01:06 AM
I had posted about my experience with isotretinoin earlier, and now I'm back with an update after three years

I've been hearing all sorts of things like it causes permanent hair loss or joint problems or mental health issues, but honestly, I think these are just exaggerations or not true at all. I was on it for about eight or nine months and I didn't notice any hair loss. I also didn't have any joint pain after I stopped taking it, though I did have some trouble with my left knee while I was on it. As for mental health, I think it actually got better. You might feel a bit anxious during the treatment, but after that, you'll be more confident than ever. Please go see a dermatologist and get your issues sorted out, you deserve the best. By the way, this is not medical advice. Love you guys

Great results, I also started taking it, I did 20mg for 40 days, then 30mg for three months, and now I'm on 40mg for four months. But the thing is, most doctors in India prescribe it in a way that doesn't really work, like 5-20mg for a month and then stop it and use adapalene and benzoyl peroxide instead. But isotretinoin only works if you take the full cumulative dose. I had to argue with my dermatologist to get the full dose, it's not as bad as people think. People will eat unhealthy food and drink all their lives, but they think one or two courses of isotretinoin will ruin their liver, it's crazy

I'm currently taking isotretinoin, I'm so glad my dermatologist put me on it because nothing else worked for my cystic acne. My acne wasn't caused by hormones, so I was a good candidate for isotretinoin. I'm on my third month now, I started with 10mg for 20 days and 20mg for 40 days, and I'll start 30mg in ten more days. I'm still breaking out, but it's much less intense. I had headaches for a few days at the start, but it's been smooth sailing since then. Your post is giving me hope
