Title: Are you happy in arranged marriage? Why can't I be?
Post by: Harry on Apr 13, 2026, 09:40 AM
I don't even know where to start, but I need to get this off my chest.

I'm a 27‑year‑old guy, married to a 24‑year‑old woman in November 2024 through an arranged match. Since then life feels like a nonstop roller‑coaster, mostly downhill. I thought there would be some adjustment issues, but this feels different.

Even over tiny problems she brings up divorce or says she'll just go back to her parents' house. There's no effort to work things out together. I'm in a rough financial patch because I just launched a new venture, so money's tight. I can't give the lifestyle I'd like right now, but I'm trying to build something for the future. She doesn't seem to get that or care.

She has serious anger issues – she never admits it – and when she's mad she throws hurtful stuff like "marrying you was my worst decision." Afterwards there's no real accountability.

She can't take jokes or mild criticism. Whenever she talks to people for a while it usually ends in some argument. At the same time she brags a lot, saying I'm "lucky to have her," even though she didn't finish her studies and isn't working. Most of her day is spent scrolling reels and comparing our life to what she sees online.

It feels like she doesn't value the relationship. I'm always the one trying to patch things up. If I don't take the initiative we just stay silent forever.

Physical intimacy has also dropped – it's been about three weeks now – adding another layer of emotional distance.

She also has issues with my family. My family isn't perfect either, but she shows no interest in finding a middle ground; it's just constant complaints.

Lately I've started thinking about divorce. Not a snap decision, but a serious thought. I wish I had a partner who's educated, emotionally mature, simple, not materialistic – someone who wants to build a life together from scratch, enjoys small joys, is calm, supportive, maybe loves travelling, nature, and growing together.

But I can't act on those thoughts now. There are too many practical and personal constraints.

So I'm stuck wondering: can this improve with time? Or should I just focus on earning more and hope things settle?

Has anyone been in a similar situation – a partner who's constantly negative, won't communicate, and is emotionally volatile? Did things ever get better?

I really don't know what to do.

That's rough, yaar, but give it at least six months before thinking about divorce. If the problems still linger with no improvement, then decide whether to compromise for life or take matters into your own hands.

Did you check compatibility before the marriage? How long was the courtship?

So you didn't check compatibility before the marriage?

This is a perfect example of why arranged marriages can go wrong. It focuses on the wrong things and doesn't give the couple any time to really get to know each other.

Let me ask – did you consider her personality before tying the knot, or was it just because you found her attractive?

Emotional maturity and a shared intent to build together are essential in a partnership.

The constant threat of divorce is a major red flag, in my opinion. I know you're financially strained right now and working hard to turn things around.

You should have an honest conversation with her, explaining the stress you're under and the support you need. If she's emotionally unable to understand, consider counselling or couples therapy as the next step. The marriage is still new; adjustment takes time, but try these options before jumping to divorce.

What were you expecting, bro? You married her before she was fully mature!

She's 24 now, probably married at around 22. She's still figuring out what she likes and what emotional maturity means. People in their early twenties are often still growing. You're the older one, and she's undergoing a huge life change, so she might be struggling to adjust without the right tools – that's why she seems immature.

If you marry young, the idea is to grow together. Have that conversation about expectations, goals, and responsibilities. If you marry later, say late twenties or early thirties, most people have already gone through some character development and are more financially stable. Know what marrying young entails.

She's going to drain you emotionally and financially if you head for divorce.

There are plenty of examples on this platform where even long‑term marriages faced similar issues, so it's not just about arranged matches. It's often a matter of bad luck or poor compatibility.

Talk to her calmly, try to build a life together, involve both families, and only then consider serious divorce discussions.
