I am a 25‑year‑old guy and I've been trying to figure this out for a while.
I've seen cases where a guy is clearly toxic or manipulative, yet the woman stays and puts up with it. At the same time, I've also seen decent, stable guys who treat their partners well, but things still fall apart or they get cheated on.
I'm not trying to blame anyone or make broad statements, just genuinely confused about what drives this. Is it emotional attachment, attraction, past experiences, or something else?
Would love honest perspectives, especially from women who've been through such situations.
Generally, girls don't give up quickly. We try to fix things even with the tiniest hope because we cling to what initially attracted us to the person. It can be self‑sabotage, but we tend to stay committed until we become indifferent to our partner's behavior.
Maybe it's pride, a touch of ego, peer pressure—'what will friends say'... and the dopamine rush, whether it's excitement, fear or anger. We get hooked on the habit, so letting go becomes tough. From our side it may look simple, but for them it feels completely different.
Just sharing from personal experience.
I believe the one who puts in more effort is often the better person.
Girls who don't give up on their partners do so because they are loyal and kind.
Men who treat their partners well do it for the same reason—loyalty and kindness.
Such people also tend to love more deeply.
I'm not saying it's more or less love; it's just that everyone can only give as much love as their capacity allows, and toxic folks usually have a low capacity.
There are many psychological factors at play, and they can be quite random, so even if you're a great person you might still face disappointment. In short, these things are unpredictable; we can't pin it down to a single cause. I've also seen the opposite of what you described.
Bro, psychologically it's an unresolved trauma loop—if someone's nervous system is used to 'chaos' and drama, a toxic partner feels familiar and exciting, while a decent, stable partner starts to seem boring.
