I think Miller should've taken that single.
Everyone's quick to give a post‑mortem. Miller backed himself to win, but it didn't work out. I'm pretty sure that if DC had lost in the super over, the same folks who're now criticizing Miller for refusing the single would have told him to take it and argued the opposite.
DC has always been that kind of side. Last season they won their first five games, then slipped up in that MI match they should've taken. In the end they didn't even make the playoffs. This time they're showing the same signs even though they're one of the most balanced squads.
The only thing that matters to me as an RR fan is that we're no longer the side that loses when we need 9 runs off the last over.
I remember last year we needed 9 off the final over against DC, pushed it to a super over and lost.
Koi baat nahi bhai, ho gayi galti usse.
He's absolutely right; I was also confused why Miller the Killer didn't go for the kill himself.
Is Ashwin the smartest cricketer out there?
I don't think he blundered with that call.
Honestly, if he stayed back deliberately, he was counting on himself to finish the chase, and I'd back that as a fellow player and captain.
Also, before the 19th over DC's chances were almost nil, then Miller's power turned it around to a 95‑5 swing in DC's favour.
Statistically a super over is a 50‑50 game, and they probably didn't want to drop from a 95% win probability to a 50% gamble.
In that scenario the safest bet was having Miller on strike for the last ball, so they went for it.
It didn't work out this time, but I wouldn't call it a huge mistake.
