Title: Oily and dehydrated skin with weird texture issues
Post by: Sonia on Mar 09, 2026, 03:36 AM
I have this weird skin type that's both oily and dehydrated at the same time, and it's really textured

My skin type is oily and dehydrated, and I live in a pretty humid place near the coast. My daily routine is like this: in the morning, I use Neutrogena ultra gentle foaming facewash, Fae Beauty toner, Oryza moisturizing lotion, and Uv doux sunscreen when I'm going out, or Conscious chemist berry sunscreen when I'm indoors. At night, I use Neutrogena ultra gentle foaming facewash again, Fae beauty toner, Physiogel moisturizer, and Rosehip oil. I also use Aziderm 10 cream twice a week, but I stopped using it for a bit because my skin barrier is damaged, so now I'm just using products that help repair it. I alternate between Aziderm and Sebozit gel, which has 2% salicylic acid, and I only exfoliate at night, twice a week, because if I do it more often, my skin gets really irritated. But for the past few days, I've noticed that my skin isn't as oily in the evenings, but it's got a lot of texture and these whitehead kind of things, and papules, and it looks really bad. From far away, my face looks okay, but when people get closer, they always ask me what's wrong with my skin, and it makes me feel really insecure.

The cleanser you use makes a big difference, so try using something even gentler, like a creamy cleanser, because foam cleansers can be really drying. You can also use glycerin, which is like hyaluronic acid, but way cheaper and easier to find.

I have a similar skin type, and I had a bad reaction to the Conscious Chemist sunscreen, it gave me small bumps.

My skin was similar to yours, and I found that using an aloe gel from a pharmacy brand really helped, I think my skin was just inflamed, especially around my cheeks.

Hey, you should try using a salicylic acid serum and a moisturizer that's based on salicylic acid

I used the Minimalist glycolic acid toner and it completely changed my skin, it helped with pigmentation, acne marks, and acne itself, and it was really hydrating. Just use it with a sunscreen and you're good to go, it might sting a bit, but that's just because of your skin's sensitivity. For context, I had already used the Requill fruit wash, so my skin was kind of prepared, but you might want to start with a lower percentage of glycolic acid and work your way up. Glycolic acid is the way to go, just don't overuse it, and start by using it once or twice a week, and then you can use it every other day, but if it's too drying, just stick to twice a week.

If your skin barrier is damaged, you should use a BP spot treatment and stop using salicylic acid. The Neutrogena cleanser might be too harsh for you, so try using something gentler like Bioderma or Cetaphil, and use a moisturizer like Bioderma GEL crème. When it comes to acids, try using Mandelic acid 10% or Lactic acid 10% at most. It seems like you're using products that are either too harsh or not good enough, and it's not doing your skin any favors. I've had skin like yours for two years, and I know how frustrating it can be. My advice would be to simplify your routine and use calming products like a gentle face wash, rose water as a toner, and a gel cream moisturizer, and you can also add an aloe gel, like the one from Innisfree, which is really good and doesn't irritate my skin.
