India is ditching the cheaper Chinese high‑speed cameras for highway tolls because of data‑security worries. Instead, they're going with suppliers from the US, Germany and Taiwan, says folks who know the inside story.
Officials have been told to stay away from importing any sensitive tech from China and are already swapping out the Chinese units. They asked to stay anonymous since the talks are private. The plan is to roll out cameras that can read plates without making vehicles slow down, so traffic keeps moving smoothly.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has narrowed it down to three firms – one from Taiwan, one from Germany and one from the US – to provide the video gear for roughly 1,150 toll sites.
