Title: Final year BTech EE (GEM) student: low CGPA, unplaced, 1 month left
Post by: Ananya on Apr 07, 2026, 06:31 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm a final‑year Electrical Engineering student (GEM) from a Tier‑2/3 state government college.

Qualifications

- CGPA: 7.7
- 12th: 77.83%
- 10th: 94.8%

Situation

- Placement season almost over, still unplaced
- About 1 month left before graduation
- Not very strong in DSA or core depth

Family Background

- Single mother

My Confusion

1. Should I focus on IT jobs (off‑campus / data roles) or start preparing for GATE seriously?
2. Government job (PSU/SSC JE etc.) vs private job – which is more realistic for me?
3. Is it too late to turn things around or should I consider a drop year for preparation?

My Goal

- Stable career with decent income
- Want to avoid wrong decisions again (already feel I wasted time due to lack of guidance)

I feel very confused because whatever I plan, later I realise it may not be the best choice.

What would you do if you were in my shoes right now? Any realistic roadmap or honest advice would really help.

Thanks in advance
