I've been prepping for govt exams for almost 5 years. I cleared Mains twice before but never made the final list. This year was even worse – couldn't clear Prelims.
Finally, I got selected in DDA as a Group C staff – a mali (gardener).
I don't know how to feel. On one hand, it's my first govt job after years, so there's some relief. On the other, I'm demotivated and a bit embarrassed about the post.
I talked to another guy in the same situation. He hasn't told his family the exact post, just says he got into DDA. That made me feel a little better, but it's still tough mentally.
After 5 years of preparation, it's hard to accept this outcome. I'm stuck between being grateful and thinking I could have done better.
Has anyone been in a similar spot? How did you handle it?
Congrats, bhai. I'm still unemployed, couldn't become a mali either. Keep preparing for other opportunities while you work.
Does DDA have a mali post?
Bhai, chalo! Sarkari job mil gayi!
Koi baat nahi bhai, kabhi‑kabhi zindagi aise hi aage badhti hai. Shayad is raste se kuch achha mil jaye.
Hey, congratulations! Aaj mali ka paper hua hai, aage isse bade adhikari banoge bas agar lagatar mehnat karte raho. Think of it as a stepping stone, not a dead end. Keep working hard, life moves forward slowly. Don't compare with others; people will talk, but nobody really cares.
Hey man! Same situation here. Got an MTS post last year, not thrilled. After 3 years of unemployment I had to join. The only upside I see is you'll have some time to study. Initially it'll be very embarrassing. As MTS we have to do all kinds of work. In my department they even forbid us from studying. Officers, whether they work or not, expect us MTS to be seen doing the job. The first 2‑3 weeks were tough, but there's no other option. One thing to remember: after you have a job, if you give any exam your confidence stays because you already have a job. But reality is finding study time becomes harder. After work you won't have as much time as before. In my opinion, if you get an extension, take it – any extra time helps you prep for other exams in between. Congrats on the job. Welcome on board!
Congrats, it's a new beginning, but the grind continues. Jab tak age hai, koshish karte raho, hopefully kuch behtar milega. You can also pick up an online skill alongside, so if you ever want to switch fields it'll help.
Congrats, bhai! This job will bring many benefits that you'll realize after some time. The biggest one is that you won't have the burden you felt when you were unemployed.
I got rank 11 in DDA ASO 2023 but was rejected because my OBC certificate was past their cut‑off date. Nothing I could do. Be grateful for what you've achieved with hard work. It's your personal achievement and size is just perception. Stay happy and move forward – after 5 years of preparation you deserve bigger things coming your way. Congratulations.
Why do our governments hire for these posts? They could easily outsource them without extra burden. And they still have an aptitude‑based computer test for a gardening job? What does reasoning have to do with it? I'm happy for you, OP, no disrespect. Having any job is better than none. Don't feel low about it. Society needs all kinds of services, and no job is more or less important. Unfortunately, our society often doesn't respect the dignity of labour.
