In my opinion, KL or Shreyas are the only sensible picks for captaincy, but BCCI making Gill the face of Indian cricket will hurt India and his own career.
Iyer needs to learn how to win over the higher‑ups.
What's worse is, they were discussing captaincy candidates a while back and Iyer's name wasn't even on the list!!
I'm not talking about Tests. Even in white‑ball, they looked at KL Rahul, Pant, Hardik, Bumrah, etc., but Iyer wasn't considered.
Iyer will replace Sky in the next World Cup if politics stays out of it.
Totally agree – after Rohit, Shreyas should be the ODI captain. Gill is great, but he could be vice‑captain and learn from Shreyas. Give Shreyas a chance in T20Is; if he does well, make him permanent, and when Sky retires, he should take over T20I captaincy. He's smart and amazing.
We all know why, right? After the 2023 World Cup loss, Iyer's cold face when he met the PM must have made the higher‑ups uneasy.
Shreyas and Ponting would be a killer combo...
I like the idea of Iyer as captain, but he must sort his over‑rate... He's been fined twice for slow over‑rates in just two games.
It's sad to see him like this. No hate for Gill, but there's just no comparison between him and Iyer right now. Iyer is definitely one of the sharpest cricketing minds in India atm.
If anyone deserves the white‑ball captaincy, it's Shreyas Iyer. Even if you're not a fan, with the current WC‑winning skipper Surya, handing the role to Iyer is the right move. He's proved himself on many fronts, and it's crucial for the ICT to recognise his potential and give him the job that's long overdue.
