Title: Why Indian society sees biologists as inferior to doctors?
Post by: Shobha on Apr 04, 2026, 03:11 AM
I don't get why they're seen as inferior when biologists generate the knowledge and doctors apply it. For example, a biologist might discover a potential cancer drug, and doctors run the clinical trials on patients. They're interdependent, not hierarchical, and often biologists are more up‑to‑date with the latest research.

There's no point in comparing one profession to another. People meet doctors more often and respect them as "life‑saving professionals". Scientists work behind the scenes. Most people in India don't read research papers, so they don't understand what being a scientist entails. Their opinions on the two fields will naturally differ.

It's because our society only values money.

I value good researchers over doctors, lol. Many think doctors are better because that's what they're told. People aren't exposed to research and its challenges. I've started taking biology lessons on my own because I can't fully trust doctors; many of them seem fake.

Money is everything... especially in India. Society reflects the reality that later in life you struggle if you chose a low‑paying career.

Most people don't really know what a biologist does. Doctors have a direct role when someone falls ill or needs medical advice, so they get more recognition.
