Hey folks,
I'm planning a solo 3‑day trip to Maharashtra during the monsoon and need some ideas.
I've set aside one day for Kalu Waterfall, but I'm not sure how to fill the other two days.
A little about me:
- I love hiking and trekking
- I've already done Harihar Fort, Brahmagiri, and Trimbak (Anjaneri side as well)
- I've also been to Matheran
I'm after places with good hikes, scenic trails, or forts with great views. Prefer something not too crowded, though I'm open to popular spots if they're worth it.
I'd like to keep travel time reasonable and avoid rushing.
Any suggestions for a solid 2‑day plan around Kalu Waterfall would be appreciated.
Here are some gorgeous pics from my last visit.
Thanks!

RemindMe! 2‑day Maharashtra monsoon trek ideas
Kalu waterfall is part of Malshej Ghat. A few kilometres up the ghat you'll find Naneghat, the ancient foot‑pass used before cars. That area has a reverse waterfall, forts like Shivneri and Jivdhan. Jivdhan in monsoon is amazing and an easy‑to‑moderate climb given your experience, with a few hotels on the plateau and incredible views everywhere. If you reach the top of Kalu waterfall, the road there also leads to Harishchandragad – another easy‑to‑moderate trek, but I'd recommend a guide as the Sahyadris can be tricky and people have gotten lost.
If I were to do a 3‑day plan, I'd bike to Kalu, ride through Malshej to Naneghat and stay there. From the stay you can do the reverse waterfall and Jivdhan as they're right next to each other. The last day you could use for Harishchandragad or Shivneri. For Shivneri you'll need to ride down Malshej to the opposite side at Junnar, where you can also see the Lenyadri Buddhist caves and a Lord Ganesha temple.
I always suggest bikes with good rain gear for the Sahyadris, but a car works too if you don't want to get soaked all the time.

Nice photos
Hi, this post makes me happy.
I'm planning a hike plus a waterfall visit to Tamhani Ghat, the Nashik side, or Rajmachi side when the rains start. It would be great as a group.
Anyone who does monsoon hikes or visits waterfalls, please ping me – I'll set up a Telegram group chat.
